Spooky Eyeball Donut Recipe: How to Make Halloween Treats

A little spooky fun turns this easy vanilla baked donut into a festive Halloween treat. Creepy Eyeball Donuts are just the right mix of playful and spooky when you want something simple, delicious, and fun.

Creepy Eyeball Donuts

October is here, and that means Halloween planning is underway. If you have a little one who’s unsure about spooky things, you’ll want treats that are more playful than petrifying. That’s where these Creepy Eyeball Donuts come in — they’re a fun twist on a favorite snack without being too scary.

Donuts are a family favorite in our house, so I decided to turn a classic vanilla baked donut into something seasonal. The idea was to keep the flavor familiar while adding Halloween flair: black-tinted frosting and a gummy eyeball on top. My two-year-old wasn’t bothered by the dark frosting at all — in fact, he loved the eye and dove right in.

These donuts are easy to make and perfect for little hands. They’re baked (not fried), so they’re quick to prepare and less messy than some Halloween treats. The base is a straightforward vanilla donut batter, baked in a donut pan. Once cooled, the donuts get a coating of black-tinted frosting and a gummy eyeball placed in the center. Add sprinkles if you like for an extra festive touch.

Today marks the start of #HalloweenTreatsWeek, a week-long series where bloggers share spooky and seasonal recipes. I’m kicking things off with these Creepy Eyeball Donuts because they’re kid-friendly, tasty, and easy to decorate — a great option for classroom parties, family get-togethers, or a fun afternoon baking project.

These donuts strike a balance: enough whimsy to delight children, yet suitably eerie for Halloween. They’re a great way to get kids involved in decorating — sticking on an eyeball and smoothing frosting is simple and fun.
