Chocolate Cottage Cheese Cookie Dough Recipe: Soft, Protein-Rich Treat

A few weeks ago we made a protein-packed cottage cheese cookie dough that my family loved, so I knew a chocolate version was next. This Chocolate Cottage Cheese Cookie Dough is even better than the original—rich, chocolaty, and still high in protein.

How much Protein is in Cottage Cheese?

Cottage cheese is an underrated source of protein. If you’re trying to add more protein to your meals, it’s a versatile ingredient to have on hand.

Texture-wise, cottage cheese combines the creaminess of cream cheese and ricotta with small curds, giving it a unique mouthfeel. It might not look glamorous, but it’s extremely adaptable and works well in both savory and sweet dishes.

One cup of cottage cheese contains roughly 25 grams of protein, making it an easy way to boost the protein content of snacks, breakfasts, or desserts.

What else can I put Cottage Cheese in?

I use cottage cheese in recipes for several reasons:

  1. It’s high in protein, which helps make snacks and treats more satisfying.
  2. There are many low-fat and reduced-fat options available, so you can tailor it to your diet.
  3. It has a mild flavor—almost like soft milk—so it readily absorbs other flavors and becomes a neutral base for sweet or savory additions.

It’s a great blank canvas: add fruit, spices, herbs, cocoa, or chocolate and it takes on those flavors effortlessly.

What is the best protein powder for baking?

The best protein powder for baking depends on the texture and flavor you want. Different brands and types behave differently: whey, casein, plant-based blends, and collagen all react uniquely in recipes.

For a dessert that imitates sweet, raw cookie dough, choose a protein powder with a lighter, sweeter profile that complements chocolate—such as a chocolate-flavored whey or blend. Match the flavor of the powder to the final result you’re aiming for, and taste as you go so you can adjust sweetness and cocoa levels.
