I’ve been on a snack-making streak lately, and these Candied Caramel Cheetos have quickly become a favorite. They taste like a cross between caramel-coated popcorn and cheesy puffs, keeping the familiar crunch of Cheetos with a sweet, sticky caramel glaze.

Yes, these are indulgent — pure junk-food bliss — but enjoyed in moderation they make a fun treat. If you can make caramel corn, you can make these; and even if you haven’t, the method is simple and forgiving.

How to Make Candied Caramel Cheetos

Can I use crunchy Cheetos to make caramel Cheetos?

I’m a die-hard fan of Cheetos Puffs, and they’re my top choice for this recipe. That said, you can absolutely use crunchy Cheetos if that’s what you have on hand. Caramel-covered crunchy Cheetos sometimes go by the quirky name “Coyote Droppings.” Whatever you call them, they’re delicious.

Why bake the Cheetos after coating them with caramel?

Baking lets the caramel fully set and become crisp. If you skipped the oven step, the coating would stay soft and the Cheetos would turn chewy or soggy. The low-and-slow bake helps the caramel harden so the finished snack is crunchy and easy to break apart.

If you’re unsure about trying them, give it a shot — you might find a new snack obsession. They travel well to parties and are an easy homemade alternative to store-bought candy-coated treats.
