Biddle’s Escape: Sunday Brunch Guide

Biddle’s Escape Sunday Brunch

If you haven’t visited Biddle’s Escape in Regent Square, you’re missing a cozy local gem. This bustling coffeehouse draws poets, writers, artists and other creative types, and it’s also one of the best places in the area to enjoy a properly made cup of coffee.

Biddle’s offers more than excellent coffee. The menu features homemade sandwiches, fresh hummus and one of Pittsburgh’s most extensive tea selections. During spring and summer a large glass garage door opens to an expansive patio where patrons often bring dogs, cats and sometimes more unusual animal companions.

Brunch is served every Sunday, and on my recent visit I was impressed by the quality and care in each dish. My plate included thick slices of challah French toast, vegetarian sausage and a smooth rice pudding — all prepared in house. The challah French toast was rich and aromatic with a subtle hint of orange, finished with maple syrup and creamy butter. The rice pudding was silky and warmly spiced with fresh nutmeg, and the vegetarian sausage provided a satisfying, well-seasoned alternative to traditional meat sausage.

All of the food is prepared by baristas Michelle and Britta, who are increasingly taking on chef roles as the kitchen grows. Their hands-on approach and attention to flavor make the menu feel genuinely homemade.

If you haven’t been to Biddle’s Escape yet, plan a visit for Sunday brunch. Bring your appetite and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, excellent coffee and thoughtfully prepared dishes.
