These low-carb air fryer turkey burgers wrapped in lettuce are a simple, flavorful meal. You can quickly air fry store-bought frozen turkey patties or make homemade turkey burgers from scratch in your air fryer for a fast weeknight dinner.

Why Air-Fried Turkey Burgers Are So Good
Air-fried turkey burgers come out juicy with a nicely browned exterior. The circulating hot air crisps the outside while retaining moisture inside, giving a texture and flavor that’s close to grilling without the fuss. Fresh patties benefit most, but even frozen patties can turn out well with proper cooking.

Low-Carb Lettuce-Wrapped Air Fryer Turkey Burgers
Wrapping turkey patties in lettuce turns them into a light, protein-focused burger that’s perfect for low-carb and keto eating. You can also serve a warm patty over a bed of crisp greens for a hearty salad. Seasoning well is the key—proper spices and a splash of umami sauce make these patties flavorful whether you serve them as wraps or on a plate.

How to Make Fresh Turkey Patties
- Choose the leanness you prefer. Very lean ground turkey (99%) cooks quickly but can dry out; make smaller, thinner patties to reduce cooking time.
- Ground turkey with some darker meat adds more flavor and better texture than ultra-lean options.
- Use quality ground turkey to avoid a mushy texture.
- Season generously: lemon pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, or chipotle add great flavor.
- Hand-shaped patties vary in thickness, so cooking times will differ—thicker patties need a few extra minutes.
- Air fryers vary by model. After one batch you’ll know the ideal timing for your unit.
- If you want a cheeseburger, add cheese in the last 30–60 seconds of cooking and allow it to melt in the air fryer.
- Use crisp lettuce varieties—iceberg, green leaf, or romaine—for wraps.

Can Store-Bought Frozen Turkey Patties Be Air-Fried?
Yes. Frozen store-bought turkey patties can be air-fried directly from frozen. They cook well in the air fryer, but be sure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) before serving so they are fully cooked through.
Make-Ahead and Storage Tips
You can make a large batch and freeze cooked patties for later. Cool them completely, store in an airtight container, and freeze. Thaw before reheating—reheat by searing briefly in a pan, warming in the microwave, or air-frying at 360°F (182°C) for about 6 minutes, adjusting time for patty size. Once warmed, assemble the lettuce wraps with avocado and your favorite toppings.

- 1/2 cup (80 g) minced onion
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) salt, or to taste
- Lots of black pepper
- Oil spray, for coating
- 4 slices cheese (optional)
Burger Assembly Options:
- 4 large lettuce leaves (green leaf, red leaf, or iceberg)
- 1 avocado, sliced
- Other options: cheese, radish sprouts, pickles, tomato, etc.
Equipment
- Air Fryer
- Instant-read thermometer (optional)
- Non-stick silicone air fryer liner (optional)
Instructions
-
Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for 5 minutes.

-
In a bowl, mix the ground turkey, garlic, Worcestershire (or fish or soy sauce), dried herbs, minced onion, salt, and black pepper until just combined.

-
Form the mixture into four patties about 4 inches wide. Spray both sides lightly with oil. If your air fryer is small, cook in batches.

-
Spray the air fryer basket or line it with a non-stick perforated silicone liner so patties cook in a single layer. Cook in batches if needed.

-
Air fry at 380°F (193°C) for 10–12 minutes total. Flip after 6 minutes, then continue for another 4–6 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Thicker patties may need extra time.

-
For turkey cheeseburgers: top the cooked patties with cheese and air fry for 30 seconds to 1 minute to melt.

-
Let the patties rest covered for a couple of minutes to retain juiciness. Serve wrapped in lettuce with avocado slices and your favorite toppings.
