Halloween window clings used as car decorations

Welcome to the 13 Days of Halloween series. My friend Bri from Parties With A Cause and I are sharing simple, festive ideas for celebrating Halloween this year. With more communities hosting drive-by Halloween parades instead of traditional trick-or-treating, I want to share a few quick and safe ways to decorate your car.

Full disclosure: I’m not a fan of driving, so when decorating for a parade I prioritize safety and simplicity. I don’t want anything that could fly off, block visibility, or distract drivers. That’s why window clings are my go-to—they’re fast, reusable, and won’t hurt your vehicle when used responsibly.

Window clings are widely available at discount and craft stores as well as party retailers. They apply easily—just peel and press—and they’re designed to cling without adhesive. That makes them adjustable and reusable for future events.

Top reasons to use window clings to decorate your car for Halloween:

  • Quick and easy to apply
  • Won’t damage your car when removed promptly
  • Quick and easy to remove and reuse

A quick note about car finish: remove clings soon after the parade. Leaving them on for weeks, especially in very hot, sunny climates, could affect paint or finish over time—so don’t let them sit longer than necessary.

I avoided placing clings directly on windows where drivers need full visibility, since you’ll likely have windows rolled down during a parade. Instead, consider clinging designs to the vehicle body, rear window edges, or other surfaces that won’t interfere with driving.

If you prefer something more elaborate, Bri created an incredible White Tiger car costume that transforms a vehicle into a show-stopping parade entry. Her design is a great example of a more involved approach if you have the time and help to build it.

Not doing a drive-by parade? Trunk-or-treat events are another fun option. A few years ago I set up a glam cemetery scene in the bed of our truck for a festive trunk-or-treat display—it’s an easy way to create an enclosed, themed space for handing out treats.

That’s it for these simple Halloween car decoration ideas. Keep safety in mind, keep decorations secure, and have fun celebrating in a way that works for your family and community. Until next time!
