September Edit: Capturing Light in Autumn Photography

September has become, for me, a month of turning inward—reviewing the months behind me and sketching the path ahead. I think of mapping not just as a literal craft but as a practice of cartography for life: a way to understand where I am and how I relate to the world. In that sense, I’ve quietly added “cartographer” to my resume as I continue to chart my own journey.

This September I celebrate the roads I’ve already traveled and begin to design the remaining months of the year. It’s a time of reflection and anticipation: an annual pause that offers space to examine what’s been and to imagine what’s next.

Looking inward is not always easy. The months leading up to September might have been difficult—or perhaps fortunate—and your view of the year so far will reflect that. Still, September is ideal for catching light. Take time to notice the good. Even storms have lightning; reflection requires light.

Paying attention to patterns, recurrent moments and pleasant surprises deepens my interest in how time is spent. The small repetitions of daily life—the chirality of routine—anchor me in the present, a slice of time I try to savor.

“Catching light” is a useful metaphor because the light itself changes constantly. It’s not about chasing transient feelings but about noticing and appreciating what already exists.

Every September I hold on to the last warmth of summer while keeping one hand open to the season ahead. I find myself drawn to heavier, more textured visuals—vintage mantels, layered clothing. I like pairing a delicate white tank with a worsted sweater: a little secret between me and summer, a sign that I’m always ready for its return.

Favorite Delicate White Tanks

A simple, delicate white tank makes the best base for thoughtful layering. It elevates an outfit beyond the basic and gives you a refined foundation for mixing textures and proportions.

Best Fall Jackets: Cropped Edition

This fall I’m drawn to cropped jackets. Their boxier shapes make them perfect for layering over favorite cardigans or a textured sweater, creating balanced, interesting silhouettes.

Subtle Statement Earrings

For jewelry I usually keep necklaces and bracelets minimal, so I enjoy experimenting with earrings. A pair of subtle statement earrings can add an unexpected pop and complete an outfit.

Fall Bags: Crossbody

Richer tones always remind me of autumn. This season I’m loving three particular crossbody bags that feel both practical and seasonally appropriate.

Vintage Finds of the Month

This month I’m drawn to vintage home pieces: lighting, artwork, and candelabras. These finds bring warmth, history, and texture into a room and feel especially fitting as the seasons shift.
